When the book was published in 1992 it was the 11th in Cussler's best-selling series, which now numbers 18, revolving around master explorer and deep-sea expert Dirk Pitt, who's played in the film by Matthew McConaughey. "Sahara" was produced by Howard Baldwin, Karen Baldwin, Mace Neufeld and Stephanie Austin and executive produced by McConaughey, Gus Gustawes, William J. Immerman and Vicki Dee Rock.
